I never got the idea A Midsummer Night's Dream was supposed to take place on May Eve? If anything I'd have thought St John's Day, June 24? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midsummer_Day#United_Kingdom. Beltane is the beginning of summer (in the Irish two-pole system), not the middle. If anything's the middle in that conception it'd be Lughnasadh, but AFAIK it wasn't thought of as such.

If so, it makes sense why you (and me) only pay much attention to those two

I was quoting someone else. See my comment to [livejournal.com profile] dancinglights below; I was just making a note of this because the idea of thinking about in terms of how many "pushes that drive the wheel" I feel may be a useful approach. I'm pretty sure I feel more than these two.
