pasted from chat with enotsola, re my dad, who my mother took down to Kaiser at about 9:45 this morning:

apparenty yeah, some kind of heart problem
they did an ekg, and putting a monitor on him, and moved up an appt from 2 PM to in a few mins
she says she'll call me when they get home as she really shouldn't be on the phone
and they may do drugs, or may have to implant a pacemaker (!)
and she thinks this is not very surprising, since his mother had heart trouble around this age, which is true
IIRC she had a pacemaker, although obviously they were a lot less advanced in the 80s
electrical impulses screwy, kind of thing
so... wonderful

Oh shit, what a rotten thing to have happen (and right around father's day too). Best wishes for his recovery. Modern pace makers are pretty cool.

He's almost 71 and has been generally failing in vigor in various ways over the past five or six years (on top of occasional cholesterol problems and blood pressure issues he's had for ten years at least, maybe significantly more). :-/ I just hope I haven't inherited the same kind of future heart rhythm problems.
