Never thought I'd be saying this about an earthquake (and one I think of as not so big, at that, although it depends how prepared your buildings are, I guess), but is everyone on my flist who's back east where it hit OK?

(I saw another one, actually, late last night down around the border between Colorado and New Mexico, but I don't think I know anyone there to respond...)

I'm doing ok. :) So far, the most damage I've heard of were all building-related (some cars in Tysons Corner actually got crushed by falling bricks). Heck, there was apparently damage to both the National Cathedral in DC and the Washington Monument.

Good to hear. Not that I was expecting major injuries or anything, unless someone was unlucky enough to be inside a damaged building or something. I just, well, didn't know what to expect, since this kind of thing (quakes in that specific area) is outside my experience.

I have been hearing sporadic reports of property damage (besides things like, ulp, the National Cathedral), but little else; it's about what I'd expect for a quake this size out here, but I wasn't sure how relatively well-built things are on that side of the world (besides, I'm sure, lesser earthquake standards, there's more older buildings and things).

I'm okay. You know, I lived in SoCal for 10 years, experienced a bunch of quakes, but this was actually the biggest I'd experienced.

Loma Prieta (1989) was my largest one. A friend on DW is contesting my characterizing this one as "middling" but really it doesn't seem that large to me.

Irene will graze us as it travels northward, but Richmond is far enough inland that we will only get 2-4 inches of heavy rain and maybe a little wind.
