It depends on the system/interface, of course, but these days, usually keyword searching of this sort of data is case-insensitive unless you form your query specially to "exactly this". Lists of common misspellings might be a first line of corrections, but actually I have no idea how fuzzy searching (a la Google's "did you mean...") actually works.
Heh, Bobby Tables. I mean, the right to choose one's name, sure... but the systems we use do currently have some limits, especially in cases where you need a human to determine the context of things. Algorithms to work out what things mean are sometimes fiendishly difficult if they can be done at all.
