I'm working on deleting duplicated posts that occurred from importing my journal from LJ, and came across one from about 4+ years ago which talked about... well, now I might call it the opposite of "first world problem"... "first world gratitude", maybe?

The thrust of the post was about what taking a shower here ultimately involves: take 20-40 gallons or so of perfectly good drinking water, contaminate it with things that make it undrinkable (soap, etc.), and then cast it off as waste.

I mean, wow.

Mindful that the so-called "third world" is certainly not homogenous, but in any case I get the idea that supplies of clean water are still a major problem in many areas of the world. So, um. In tumblr analogy to "my creys", perhaps "my gratitudes"?

What's sad in a funny way is that while I've been an Organic Gardener since the 70's I never applied the same criteria to the home until this yr. I began to notice CHuck having Digestive problems starting the day after he cleaned the bathroom. We switched 1st to more "Green" products which stopped his problems and have begun to replace even those with non-toxic homemade solutions.
Liquid Castile Soap has replaced not only the bathsoap but pretty much everything else, alone or with a few ingredients(like Vinegar and Washing Soda to it to make Dishwashing Liquid).
A mix of Boraz, Washing Soda and Fels-Naptha takes care of the Laundry and no longer needs Softener!
Baking, Washing Soda; Vinegar, Borax will pretty much clean EVERYTHING well
and much better for the Environment and wallet!
Cheers,
Pat
