german colour theory?
Dec. 16th, 2003 05:55 pmI bought some modelling wax from a catalog recently, and it happened to have come originally from Germany (the wax, that is). In the box was a fold-out showing a few photos of kids playing with the wax and some sample figures that had been made from it, but also this:

About all I understand is the names of the colours, and "Light", "Shade", "Heaven", "Earth", and some of the other words around the picture, so I'm going to have to take the time to translate the rest at some point. I'm pretty curious what relevance discussion of Goethe has to coloured wax that is mainly intended as a toy for children.

wingy thingy
Dec. 16th, 2003 08:01 pmDig the latest userpic. This one was taken from a project I did in my digital imaging class in college. I think they called it "digital photography", but it was basically a class in Photoshop, and had nothing specific to do with digital cameras.
Random tidbit: the butterfly wings were not taken from a photograph, but actually a scan of a physical set I had in my possession. One day while junior-counseloring for a kids' summer camp, I came across the head, thorax, and wings of a butterfly lying by the side of the trail. (I assume the abdomen was eaten by a bird.) I picked up the butterfly carcass (!) and kept the wings from it. Mind that this was some four or five years prior to doing this project. Since then, however, the wings have been put to various magical uses, and I no longer have any of them.
I do still have one dragonfly wing blade, which I think was originally a pair of which the mate has similarly been used for magic, which IIRC was obtained by picking them off the splatted corpse of an unlucky dragonfly who had run into the front grille of my ex's Jeep (ca. 4-5 years ago).
