Here at the De Anza College Library, we form staff-user alternative IDs with their last name and the first letter of their first name. If that already exists we add the next letter of the first name, and so on. Poor Bertrand Lo, therefore, would have gotten the slightly amusing alt ID LOB, but that was taken. So he's now LOBE!
