Let's see, what do I hate most about being sick?
Number one has got to be the congestion. I really hate not being able to breathe and the sound of my voice. It's nasal enough as it is without help from inflamed sinuses, thanks. After that are probably the feeling of mental uselessness (at least I can type today... yesterday when I went home from work I was making some very stupid typos, not the usual ones) and not being able to cope with stimuli, and the achy feeling I get all over my skin. If this develops into one of those dry spasmodic coughs at the end, as colds do for me about 50% of the time, I will hate that too, because no doctor will prescribe the medicine that really does the job of stopping it so the cycle of irritation stops: codeine cough syrup.
On the bright side, this will probably immunize me for the rest of the winter (assuming I don't pick up something in Canada where the viruses going around will be different), and yet again, despite almost certain exposure I have managed to maintain my perfect record of never having had the flu. (If I ever have, I've never been able to tell it from an ordinary head cold.)
