I was awakened at about 10 this morning (at least they waited that long) by grinding and chomping sounds of machinery. After giving up on trying to sleep til 11 regardless, I looked out the front window and determined that it was a wood chipper a short ways down the street. Fine, OK. Tea. Bagel. My mom came home at 11 and opined that the City was trimming the magnolia trees that line the street, rather than something going on at a private household. Fine, OK.
When I walked out the door to go to work at 12:10, I could see that it was very definitely a private operation, since the huge (~40 feet high? I dunno, I never measured it), broad tree just beyond the neighbour's house, that shaded our front yard in the late afternoons in summer, had been stripped down to just the trunk, with clear intention to remove it entirely. It was strangely pointy and "whittled" on top, like a huge stake or pencil driven in the ground upside-down.
I sure hope the tree was diseased, because if they're just "landscaping", well, murder-death-kill.
