I haven't been very posty lately, largely because when I came back from Kinvention North I was sick (this time my dad got me - he always teases me that every time I go to Canada I come back sick, which is not true, but this time
enotsola's stepdad was a germ farm and I'm pretty sure I got a milder version of whatever he had). So three things have happened since last Tuesday or so:
1. I got my second set of fingerprints back from the FBI yesterday (eight and a half weeks later; could have been worse, I suppose), so today they were shuffled offtheir mortal coil to Buffalo where hopefully someone will at least have to notice my file in the brief second they add this piece of paper to it.
2. To my utter surprise, partially because of some union stuff that has to do with who you can fill a position with if layoffs are going on in the District, I have been transferred into the Technical Services position that I was being hopeful about and then crushed about last November. When
enotsola asked me specifically what this meant (real answer: I'll be doing acquisitions, that is, the technical/tracking part of purchasing new items for the Library), I said "It means I'll finally get a real lunch break, won't have to worry who's going to pick a fight with me over a fine today, and won't have to deal with student employees who continually can't get things right or won't follow rules." In other words, it means I'm free. It's still not going to be a personally fulfilling job (I'm really not sure what would constitute one of those for me), but hopefully it will be something I can enjoy a little bit, and at least mostly not dread having to come to do every day.
3. Spring rain is one of the greatest smells ever.
