[livejournal.com profile] estaratshirai posted a link to a fan-shaped, rather than tree-shaped, genealogy chart here (apparently a Martha Stewart thing? weird). Oddly, I was reminded of a phrase I wrote once in a Malkavian character's background story, about being "a spirit-fan spread through time". I like the tree shape because, well, trees and all that... but somehow this particular diagram shape inspired the thought that in a way me and my ancestors could be considered to be the same being... glances at different points along the same thread, woven into the tapestry. Of course, the further back you go, the more likely you are to find a common ancestor with someone else... so how many threads are there really? If there is a "Lucy", is there only one thread? (And of course this begs the question of more woo-woo ideas like Nephilim or aliens "seeding" the planet or whatnot...)

I miss my Malkavians, but I understand why White Wolf took them away. Some people just couldn't play nice with them.

Yeah. Thing is, the new Malks, a Ventrue bloodline, are NOT the old Malks. They're still crazy, but... not in the same sense. This makes me sad, because I lurrrrved the old Malks (and as a result, wanted to beat most of the old Malk players with a shovel).

For details...

The clans are the Daeva, Gangrel, Mekhet, Nosferatu, and Ventrue.

The Brujah are a Gangrel bloodline that resembles the monsters of Near Dark; the political side of the Brujah is now represented by the Carthian Movement Covenant, which works much better.

The Assamites appear to be permanently gone, as do the Lasombra and Giovanni.

The Cappadocians, however, are back (SQUEE!) as the san Giovanni bloodline of the Nosferatu.

The Toreador are (of course!) a Daeva bloodline.

The Tremere are gone, though their influence is felt strongly in the Ordo Dracul's structure.

The Tzimesce are gone, though the Metamorphosist sect of the Tzimesce provides much of the Ordo Dracul's underlying philosophy and aim.

The Ravnos are gone. Good riddance.

The Followers of Set are gone, though I like the idea of ressurecting them as a Covenant made up largely of Mekhet.

According to the Sumerian Enuma Elish (http://www.sacred-texts.com/ane/stc/index.htm), the oldest creation story we currently know of, there were 7 pairs of purebred humans made by the Anunnaki (Nin-Khursag and Enki, specifically) prior to the creation of Adam and Eve. They were made to be farmers and mine workers, slaves for the Anunnaki.

Adam and Eve were Anunnaki/human crossbreeds. Abel was the son of Eve by Adam. Cain (the firstborn) was the son of Eve by Enki. Cain was espoused to a pureblood Anunnaki named Luluwa (Lillith). Enki established Cain's line so that there would be humans with a very large percentage of Anunnaki blood who were capable of kingship.

So total, that makes 8 original threads. 7 human, 1 Anunnaki/human hybrid
