How do I stop Firefox from overwriting the currently open tabs when I right-click and select "Open in tabs" for a bookmark folder? I feel like I'm just missing a checkbox in the tabbing or Tab Mix Plus extension somewhere and my eyes are glazing over.

edit: Actually, I think what I want is to be able to do this on the fly, because sometimes I do want to overwrite them and sometimes I don't, but if I can only have it one way, I'd rather it be "not overwrite".

I'm not sure if there's a way to set this in the GUI, but if you go to about:config and look for browser.tabs.loadFolderAndReplace, setting that to false should do the trick.

I don't know of a way to do it on the fly. Personally, what I really want is a way to select on the fly whether a link opened as a new tab opens in the background or the foreground. And I'd also like to be able to select whether it opens at the far right of all tabs or just to the right of the current tab.

(Really seems like something there should be a checkbox for, if not in the base options, then in the extension. In fact, the reason I felt so much that I was just missing a checkbox is because I could swear I've seen it in some tabbing extension before - maybe not Tab Mix Plus though.)

OK, kind-of-workaround... If you actually select several bookmarks (with shift-click or ctrl-click) and then right-click, the menu is "open in NEW tabs" which (who knew) opens them in new tabs even if this setting is true. So you can right-click on the folder to get "open in tabs" if you want to overwrite, and right-click on the bookmarks themselves to get "open in new tabs" if you don't. Not the best solution as it requires extra clicking, but it kind of does what I want. (So I changed that about:config line back to true.)
