Does anyone know why optical mice often slowly creep the pointer (or I-bar cursor) across the screen when you are not actually touching the mouse at all? In my experience (home and work mice, one wireless, one not) the motion is always right to left, but I don't know that that's absolutely always the case.

"In windows xp go into start menu, then into control panel then click on appearance and themes, then move your mouse over to mouse pointers click on it , uncheck "enhance pointer precision, and click apply, that will stop the mouse from acting crazy" as found on some forum a page or two into a google search. I know I told you in msn, but figure other people might have the same thing and go "oh noes! me too" so I'd post this here. It seemed to be the result with the most "OMG! Thanks, it worked!" replies.

Alternately, get a cat. It'll fix that mouse good.

Well, I don't think I actually "knew" that.. but it was probably safe to assume.

I'd say...haunted mouse?
Perhaps an exorcism is in order. Heheh.

It happens to my mouse at work from time to time, but not very often.

It happens to me sometimes. I think in my case it's usually because I've left the mouse at an angle.

Man, I hate to be the bearer of mundane explanations :(

I have that happen sometimes. It usually creeps from down to up with me. I've assumed it has something to do with bizarre refraction of the laser.

Oh. Maybe it is.

Meh.. there are supposedly laser mice, which are much higher resolution than the optical ones.. although really, why you'd need 1600dpi mouse resolution... I don't get it.
