Sometimes, the elegant solution is not visible even when you HAVE done it...it takes someone who knows nothing at all on the subject to come along and ask "why didn't you do it THIS way?"
Which, perhaps, is one of the major values of experience....having gone through the long way, and learning the short ones. :)
