October Crown, yeah?

My mother is now Crown Princess of the West.

The practical upshot of this is that I am going to get roped into going to Twelfth Night to see her crowned.

I realize the irony of tagging a post like this "real life", so I've offset it by also using "geekitude".

In another life I was dragged along to a West 12th Night once. The pain is yet to subside ... but that was Jade and Uther who could prat on for England, and I am certain that nine hours of court is not the norm!

"Jade and Uther"? Was Uther just stepping up? There's an Uther on the throne of the West now. Jade has been king like 120438029 times but Uther's not that far behind.

Anyway, Jade is her royal consort; he won a Crown tourney Yet Again.

Ahahahahahaahaaa! Having your mom as the Crown? That's certainly a mixed blessing. Could be highly entertaining, tho. Erm, does "roped into" mean actually autocrating/stewarding the event, or just helping out? (Getting roped into stuff is just a natural consequence of having close ties with people silly enough to win Crowns. Fortunately, there are usually some offsets for the trouble. Usually.) ;-)

So, I'm guessing you're going to be pretty busy till next summer? :-D

"Roped into" means "showing up at", which I think is probably reasonable for having one's own mother crowned Queen of the West. I think I may angle to try to be a water-bearer or something, so that I could actually HEAR the first court ever in my life. I don't play, but when I was a teenager I was often taken along to events, so I have considerable experience of courts that were dull because I couldn't hear a goddamn thing.

Oh, that's good. Whew! It is the rare court that is not dull as the summer is long. However, given your relationship to the new queen, this would be your chance to actually hear one. Get your mom to let you be one of her ladies in waiting for the day so you can stand up there behind the thrones and actually hear what's going on. (Actually, if you can manage it, don't even be a LIW, just a well-connected spectator.)

Last I knew my SCA geography, there were thirteen kingdoms. I think they're up to seventeen or something now. The Kingdom of the West was the first (the SCA was founded in Berkeley, CA) and covers some part of California. Three times a year there are combat tourneys to determine the next king and queen, and my mother was "fought for" in this last one. During the ~3 months between winning the tournament and the actual crowning, the king-and-queen-to-be are referred to as the Crown Prince and Princess. Twelfth Night is an event in early January, taking its name from the "twelfth night of Christmas".

"Knight of the Mists" doesn't make sense to me (or my mom), since peerage (including knighthood) is given by the Crown, and they don't re-use the word "knight" in any other awards or titles to avoid confusion. Do you mean Princess's Guard, maybe?
