Please note that on or around July 15, 2009, AT&T will no longer be offering access to the Usenet netnews service. If you wish to continue reading Usenet newsgroups, access is available through third-party vendors.
Posted only internally to AT&T Usenet Servers.
!(*&^@#! I know I'm, like, the only person who still wants Usenet </sarcasm>, but still. This has been a feature of every ISP I've had since, uh, ever, or less hyperbolically, at least I knew what Usenet was.

Any suggestions? I don't want to have to rely on Google Groups, even for the few newsgroups I read.

This is why monopolies are Bad.
Try Googling for free usenet servers. They're out there. When you find one that has the groups you need, you can just replace the ATT server name with its server name in your Usenet reader.
