What was the point of me making a magic filter when almost everyone in it is people I consider way ahead of myself in the realms of magic and spirituality, so therefore anything I would want to post, I would in fact not want to post, because it would never be as interesting as anything they would post on the same topic?

Date: Sep. 25th, 2003 08:51 pm (UTC)From:I know that I always get a lot out of reading individuals' personal stories of work, play, experiences, experiments, thoughts, musings, wishes, gripes, frustrations, joys.
Part of why I like this forum so is that it fosters and encourages this sort of writing, the "This happened to me" bits that people often find connection with.
And for the rambly, incidental me that I am, hearing what people consider purposefully-done magic and their experiences therewith is interesting. Hearing what works (or what doesn't) and how (or how not), at no matter how 'basic' a level, is always good.
Though I seriously doubt you were indicating me in the "way ahead of" you category, my take on it would be the same even if I were, 'specially since I learn a lot by commenting upon other folks' stuff ... at times not realizing how much I know until a question's raised and I'm halfway through answering it.

Magic(k) is more like history, in that while you might know less about Japanese history than I do, you might know more about Russian. Or even if we're both talking American history, maybe I read about black history and you read about women. There are so many different paths and perspectives on magic(k) that I don't think it's valid to say someone is better than you are. Perhaps they have more precise control at getting the results they want, but even if they tried to teach you what they know, it wouldn't work exactly the same for you.

(a) I like what Autumn said.
(b) When I met you, I thought "wow, she's way ahead of me." I didn't let that stop me. Now, I think we're about at the same level, different areas of focus, etc. Except that your determination to curse yourself (see "can't is a magick spell") is holding you back -- which means that, once you unravel this determination, YOU'LL probably be way ahead of me. Everyone moves differently. Some people go up a step at a time, others regularly take three and fall back two. Etc.
I don't let that stop me either.

Comparing yourself to others is dangerous... some will be better than you at some one thing or another, which can lead to being disappointed or depressed... and some will be less accomplished, which just leads to being prideful in certain wrong ways. We're all individual, different... even when we explore the same paths, the same things... there is STILL and ALWAYS the capacity to learn.
I regularly find what you have to say interesting.
