I've been doing reasonably well on exercise bits throughout the day. I realized that I can't just say "I'll walk every day", I have to precisely schedule myself as to when I'm going to do it - such as "I'll walk 10 minutes at 12:15, at 2:30, and at 4:45." I don't stick exactly to this in practice, but it lets me know when I'm supposed to, and I don't feel lost not knowing how to put everything together. (I'm not doing so well with the 20-30 minutes of stationary cycling 5-7 times a week, more like 2 times a week so far, but I'm working on that. It's harder for me to do that since it's at home rather than at work. I know that sounds backwards but it's the way it is.) So if I am ever really going to get with a program of daily spiritual work, I need to make myself a schedule for that too. When I just try to go with "I know I need to do these things every day, or most days" I tend to do it for a little while and then peter out because I haven't set any particular time for myself. I need that kind of structure for non-supervised activities (i.e., where scheduling is not being dictated by circumstances or someone else); I can't do whatever, whenever or I tend not to do it at all.

Stationary cycling is more fun when it's mobile.

Scheduling helps me in my spiritual practice, too. I generally do things related to the time of day.
