I've replaced her broken staff with one made of a redwood branch I had lying around after finding it last week. To the top of her new staff she is approximately 60 inches tall; 54 inches to the top of her head. The not-quite-cubical base is approximately 14-15 inches on a side, so if you unscrewed the base holding the doll, it would be about 40 inches by itself. (The doll apparently does not come off of the mounting pole; at least, we couldn't find any way to do it and unlike its companion wizard doll that was in the auction room, this one did not come with disassembly instructions, so we assumed it couldn't be done.) I am not certain of all the materials. The head, feet and hands appear to be plaster. The dress/blouse is embroidered and the skirt smocked, both by hand, in my mother's estimation, but I don't know what fabrics were used for her clothing. (feels mostly like cotton? her mantle may be wool or may be synthetic?)

54 inches?? that's 4 ft 5 inches!! that's only about 6 inches shorter than the smallest adult that I know (thus proving that I know some really short people).

is that real hair?

what an amazing piece of work.

the embroidery/smocking *look* like stuff I have seen out of the baltic--- and that was done on cotton-- very nice

She's Ukranian! ... or at least dressed in a rather Carpathian manner (she could be Bulgarian). The smocking and other embroidery patterns, the apron, the colors. V. pretty.

I believe it's synthetic hair of some kind.

Yeah, it didn't seem very "Celtic" to me - but maybe whoever stitched it was just doing what they know.

PS 54 inches counting the base. From the feet to the head is only about 40 inches, so sized more like a child than an adult (she comes about up to my waist in that way).
