"Aw, turn Rush Limbaugh off!" (spot the MST3K ref...)

One of the unfortunate consequences of my having to be at work at 10:00 am (instead of 12:30 like I used to way back in the day) is that my mother is often in the kitchen listening to Rush Limbaugh when I am trying to make lunch or eat breakfast or something. This morning there was some kind of ad I wasn't really listening to that was for some kind of wireless service - "up to 100 users at a time". I assumed it was for some kind of small business installation. My mother seemed to think it was so you could take your own wireless with you, like that service I think it is Verizon has.

I said, "Mom, these ads are all aimed towards people with money to invest. The only people listening to this are rich, conservative Republicans." She says, "now, that's not true." And I suppose she's right: there are probably rich, conservative non-Republicans; conservative Republicans that are not rich; some Libertarians; people receiving therapy for low blood pressure; and let us not forget the people who just like to make themselves angry.

Ok, I can't handle it anymore, I have to know what that icon is from!

Mystery Science Theater 3000, specifically 814 "Riding with Death". The girl pictured is named "Cupcake" in the movie.

I think that Rush has been around too long for the "okay just how bad is this guy?" audience to be tuning in, still, but there could be some stragglers or late bloomers, I suppose. I admit to listening to him at least once or twice when he first came on the air because I was curious to see just how awful he really was (not surprising, I own a collection of Ed Wood movies) and yeah, he was pretty much the embodiment of Republican parrot. *squak*...Liberals are bad....*squak*....Bush is a good president....*squak*. Um, yeah, you get the idea.

I actually think the majority of the audience is more along the lines of the "the government hates me / watch out for black helicopters" crowd. Neither I associate with a great degree of wealth; I'd describe it as lower-middle class. My guess is, the rich folks of the world simply don't have the time to listen to Rush Limbaugh, although they like the spiel. [Maybe he gets some of the rich loony retired (some of which develop black-helicopter style phobias in their age unfortunately.)]

We have one Rush-o-phobe at work. Nice enough guy, but he certainly wouldn't be rich (though programmers at our level are middle or upper-middle class). He does fit the "believe in UFO / hate the liberal" mythos to a T.
