No tobannen vi in rovail en fuin
A tolo an sîdhen îdh vi dúath
which means more literally
Be covered in the wings of night
And come to peaceful rest in (its) shadows
I did my best with the help of this page to make sure I was getting all the funny inflections right. This passage by chance seems to be blessedly free of odd mutations of the words, which I would have had a hard time figuring out. I couldn't find a word to mean "its" so I just went with word order to indicate the possession and hope that the context makes it clear. I used a Sindarin dictionary program available on this page to help with the translation.
Overall I hope it's not bad. It'll have to do unless someone can cook me up something better in the next couple days.

Date: Sep. 10th, 2004 11:56 am (UTC)From:I have a Sindarin textbook at home (I don't remember where I got it from, but I'll give you the link if I find it) that I'll check for this.
The mutations, lenitions as they seem to be called, are indeed confuzzzzzling.
sîdh "peace" is one of the few words I know by sight; how did you convert it to the adjective?
"come to"==="tolo na" or "an"? I'm looking at the "hear my voice, come back to the light" bit of dialogue here. (http://www.elvish.org/gwaith/movie_fotr.htm)
