ARGH. It seems that to import a vehicle into Canada, you have to produce not only the registration and sales receipt, but also the title. That is, I have to own the car. Not the bank. I have to have completely paid off the loan to be able to import it. So what, you say? Well, if I were moving, say, next July (just to take a very broad estimate)... that means I have to pay off the remaining ~$12,500 by then.

I can do this (heck, I could have bought the car outright, I just wanted the credit history) -- it just bugs me. I had wanted that money to stay in savings ... not that it's earning very much interest, which is what one would normally hope for - make the payments over time rather than pay it off early, so that the interest you earn on the money you haven't paid back yet offsets the interest rate on the loan itself.. but I digress. Anyway, I had been planning to continue to make payments for a while until I got an actual job, and then was planning to pay it off, sell it, and buy a similar Canadian car; or if my current car in fact turned out to be fine (e.g. if the heater is sufficient, if I survive snow without ABS, etc), then just to keep it.

Mrf. This just kinda mucks up my ability to be pleased at the numbers I see in my bank account. I suppose I don't have a right to be complaining.. if I couldn't pay it off, I'd be fucked, but it sounds so, I dunno, bourgeois to be complaining about having less-money-but-still-plenty.
