Does anyone know of any "rock operas" or rock movies, besides the following, of the sort ostensibly set in the late 50s or early 60s?

Eddie & the Cruisers (Eddie & the Cruisers II would be desirable, but is apparently not available on DVD)
Streets of Fire
Grease

Ugh... I really can't think of any off the top of my head. By the way, STREETS OF FIRE is one of my favorite movies. Just to date myself even farther, I saw it when it was first out in the theatres...

The Who's Tommy, for starters.

Also Pink Floyd's The Wall is a good bet.

Absolute Beginners with David Bowie. I adore Streets of Fire, it's interesting in that's it is rather an odd alternate world picture.

The latest DVD release of STREETS OF FIRE has some very interesting production notes talking about the hows and whys the movie was shot with the look that it has.

Not for my dad - as I specified, we're looking for a certain genre, which has that whole "classic early rock" thing. I think of Pink Floyd as classic but it's entirely the 70s, which is too late in time for his taste.

Hm, interesting. I think he already has it on DVD, though.

FWIW, I have never sat and watched the movie myself, although I used to (ca. 6-8 years ago) listen to a tape of a couple of songs over and over again (made directly from the movie by recording through the stereo system, rather than off a soundtrack release).

You got so many dreams that you don't know where to put 'em
So you better turn a few of 'em loose
Your body's got the feeling that it's starting to rust
You better rev it up and put it to use

Not really up my dad's alley.

I would definately recommend you watching it. The dialogue could be a little silly in places but it's an all around good action film.
I used to be an op in #otherkin on DALnet. Basically.. er... we messed up and stuff. ^.^;

In short, #otherkin on DALnet doesn't really exist anymore. We had a ban list a mile wide too (due to one user with a lot of different sign-on abilities) which might explain the auto-kick.

*shrug* It is sort of a long yucky story.
Ah, I see. That's too bad. Well, thanks for the info!
