What an awful dilemma. Should the farm stay? Ideally, yes, but it -is- on someone else's property, someone who's been paying for that land for more than a decade :(

If people are that serious about encouraging the garden project (and I think they should be), some compromise should be pursued. Maybe fundraise to compensate the guy for his land, or pay rent, or sell off only part of it.

Supido!!! They should leave it alone! I've learned in anthroplogy that small scale farming is actualy more efficent than the mega farms we silly westerners like to do.

Well, think about it. Which option is more in the city's interests:
That a large number of people be able to feed themselves reletively well with minimal impact on the infrastructure,

Or that Wal-Mart be able to make millions for people who live far away, demand concessions on taxes, and mess up the public infrastructure?

Oh, the Wal-Mart, of course.
