Bah, importing comments failed, I can only suppose because it wasn't able to contact the right LJ server or something. And you can't just import comments alone, so that I could try again, because it automatically brings over entries and that would create a whole mess of duplicates. I really don't want nearly eight years of duplicated entries, so forget that. I guess the old comments will just have to stay on Livejournal.

Anyway, hai guys. I'm starlightforest, and I'll be getting around to renaming that one soon so the accounts match. There were getting to be enough people from that account's flist over here on DW that it seemed to finally make sense to make a separate account and not keep reading them with arcanetrivia.

Quick note: There should not end up being duplicates. The importer at this stage in its evolution is smart enough not to make duplicates of entries that it has already imported!

By "should not" do you mean you actually tested that case and it worked as expected?

You wind up with a rather messy looking list of "friends" who are all openid accounts, but it does work. I did it on arcanetrivia before.

Yay, seemed to work this time (I haven't checked many posts). But still I got three notifications of failed attempts before the fourth one succeeded, which means it failed a total of 7 times (!) before finally managing it. I'm pretty sure when I imported elethian to arcanetrivia it worked right the first time (and I was duly impressed). Any idea what might have been going so consistently wrong? (the first four all said "Error fetching comment metadata from server" and this time I got two "Error fetching comment body data from server" as well as another metadata error.)

Yes. LiveJournal has been really slow and sluggish today; earlier their status reported that they were getting insane amounts of traffic. I noticed that many times I was having trouble getting normal LJ pages to load--since at least yesterday. I think the importer was having the same problem!
