Alicia is currently scheming about getting the Internet Lab student, whose birthday it is, down here for cake and card under false pretenses.

What the fuck is wrong with "we got you a cake. Happy birthday"? Why the cloak and dagger? I really will never understand why this kind of setup is thought to be "fun".

I've always hated surprise parties...maybe that's an elf thing.

I'm not an elf, so not in my case. ;)

I always think of you as what I am...is that odd?

No, probably not. "Scans like me" can often override factual knowledge to the contary. For example, I am continually suprised every time I remember that [livejournal.com profile] tyrsalvia amd [livejournal.com profile] darkmoon are not considerably older than I am. For some reason I put myself in that relative position when I met each of them and it has never gone away, even though [livejournal.com profile] tyrsalvia is only a few months older and I think [livejournal.com profile] darkmoon is actually a few months younger (I can never remember without asking!).

FWIW what "faedar" I have always pings everyone as elves, even if that's not what they are (at PantheaCon I picked up on a Kheprian and a fallen angel that way -- not elves by a long shot!).

I just realized that the example I chose is pretty much the opposite of "scans like me overrides knowledge" because it's "scans not like me". Ho hum. I know I've done the reverse, though -- assumed someone was my age and they actually turned out to be considerably older or younger.

I hate surprises of any kind. I enjoy nearly everything much more if I know what's going to happen, Even movies - a movie is more ejoyable to me if I already know the story/have read the book/read a few spoilers first. Not sure if it's an elf thing, but it may well be an Aspie thing.

I agree. I hate being caught off guard like that. It's probably because I am shy and hate having attention drawn to myself, especially when I haven't had time to mentally prepare for it.
