I'm thinking of bopping around a little in Berkeley the same way I did last weekend in San Francisco (I wasn't all that impressed by either Fields or Sword & Rose, actually) and when I took that side trip to Ancient Ways (also not that impressive!). Any recommendations? Although MUNI was really a lot less stressful than expected*, I'm not sure I want to repeat the learning experience in Berkeley, so preferably whatever it is will be be within walking distance (~a mile or so) of probably the Ashby BART station.

* - The website appears to have lied about one place where I could catch #6/Parnassus, but fortunately all roads lead to Market Street.

the flea market at the Ashby BART is lots of fun. There is a big cool fabric shop called Stonemountain and Daughter just a few blocks up and The Starry Plough Irish bar. Telegraph Ave is walking distance from Dwtn. Berkeley BART station, and there are always street vendors and fun things out there.

Fabric stores aren't my cup of tea but I'm glad to hear the Starry Plough is in the area (a place I've been wanting to check out). Is the flea market every weekend, some specific weekends, or...?

It is every weekend and things seem to get busy and interesting at as early as 11am. Lots of African-diaspora people and stuff.
