From the preface to A Handful of Coppers:

If you were one of the people who helped make Triskell Tales sell out so quickly [...] then you're to blame for this book you hold in your hand.

Well, I was in fact one of those people. I pre-ordered Triskell Tales. I finally received it. I read it and treasured it and got something out of it. And then I gave it to [livejournal.com profile] devafall. (I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I did.) Charles de Lint has this curious quality. I have the feeling I'm going to give away A Handful of Coppers as well, although I have no idea to whom.

I was about to write that it seemed to be related to whether I bought the book new or used, but I don't think that's the case. True, I gave away Triskell Tales (which I bought new) and have the feeling I will do the same for Handful of Coppers, as I just said. The other de Lint books I own are Memory and Dream, Yarrow, Seven Wild Sisters and Jack of Kinrowan. I have no urge to give away the latter three, especially Kinrowan; Yarrow was used, and Sisters and Kinrowan were new. Memory and Dream, however, though also used, now that I've mentioned it, seems to want to wander on to someone else.

Anyway, the point of all this was that it seemed that de Lint was an author whose books begged to be shared, to be passed on...

I've been looking for good books to read. I've got a lot of suggestions and now I think I will also check out Charles de Lint when I go to the library. :D

as a longtime de Lint reader, i have to agree. i think the only one i actually gave away was Moonheart -- the others i've lost over the years have kinda wandered on their own... =) [funnily enough, two of them, Harp of the Grey Rose and Riddle of the Wren, have come back to me in that way. =)]

[livejournal.com profile] metaphorge pointed me here, by the way... i think i need to know you. =) ::friend::

heh... hi there!

I would add you back, but you don't seem to exist! Like when I try to go to your journal, all I get is a white page with black text reading "Page not found", and I get the same if I just try to add you manually on the edit friends page.

(hmm... i think there's something screwy with LJ, since i just got the same one clicking on one of my own comments pages.)

I can't speak to that, enjoyment not existing as a quantum phenomemon to our measurement techniques, but I did enjoy it, and I do treasure it. :)

By the bye, have you read Moonheart yet? I thought you had, but I couldn't remember.

I have indeed. I think it was the second de Lint book I read (after Jack of Kinrowan). I seem to recall borrowing it from you to do so, but I'm not sure if that's true or not.
