This is an extremely morbid request, but does anyone have any links to articles about homicide cases where the fact that someone was a furry was implicated as part of the motivation for the killing?
I'm on the commmunity. You're probably thinking of Starblade. In that case, as far as I know, he was not murdered because he was otherkin, he just happened to be.
Murder is exceedingly rare in the fandom. As far as I know, the only person to have been literally murdered was Starblade and the trial on that one isn't done yet...
Yeah, I thought of Starblade, but I don't get the idea his roommate (?) or whoever it was did the deed because (or partly because) he was otherkin. I'm not looking for "within the fandom" (although that'd be horrible in another way) - I'm wondering if there's outside-in jobs, like people being killed because they were out as gay.
That's literally the only murder I can think of that happened just, you know at all within furry. It's a pretty rare occurrence. Suicides and accidental deaths? Yeah, they happen and all too often but murder is fairly scarce.
Homosexuality threatens male dominance (see http://slog.thestranger.com/2008/02/misogynyhomophobiamisogynyhomophobia ) and so homophobic men who become violent do so out of a perceived threat to their power. People might dislike furries just for being different, but I don't think that they are "threatening" in the same way that homosexuality is.
This isn't a question just for my own curiosity. I saw some sorta ignorant thing elsewhere on the internet and they challenged people to prove the contrary, and I wondered if there were in fact were any documented cases. (It was a presentation thing - if they'd said "okay, I understand you feel marginalized, but..." but it was phrased much more "lol u r dumb" than that.)
