Ancient awakenings post from me:

HEY! I do, what of it? (Laugh lines, that is. They're not strong, but they
are there. I figure it's a good thing, because it means I laugh more than
average, if I got them so soon in life.)"

Mind this is October 1999, when I was barely 21.

Nothing has changed. (to quote an mst3k icon out there)

By which I mean, I can't speak for [livejournal.com profile] danodea, but my own wrinkles have only gotten barely stronger since then, and it's pretty much the same ones - laugh lines. I'm 28.5 and I still get carded. People seem still to have no good idea what age I really am. I don't think people mistake me for a teenager anymore, as they used to, but then I've not recently asked. OTOH I am noticing more silver hairs now and then, but I think they are cool. I yank them out so I can look at them and verify they are silver, not because I don't want them in my head.

As you can see from my icon (and pics on flickr), I don't have lines on my face, and I'm 43. My hair has had grey (silvery) since my early 20's, but in general, people think that I'm a decade to a decade and a half younger than I am. They'd probably think I was still in my 20's if I were thinner; the weight adds apparent years.

I guess we're just immortal....;)

Ditto on that. I do not have any lines on my face either though I do have some silvery white hairs mixed in with the rest now.

I get carded for liquor all the time, and (get this!)I got carded for the last carton of cigarettes Husband asked me to pick up for him and the legal age for that is 18! I thought that was a bit of a stretch for that clerk, seeing as how I'm 37. I don't think I can pass for 18 anymore, but apparently that clerk wasn't sure.

They overshoot a lot on age checks these days, just to cover their asses. Usually the signs posted say things like "If you look under 30, we card" although it is not always the same age mentioned (some pick pretty random ages, it seems, like 27). I've seen a web site which showed pictures of two people and said "pick the one who is underage", and it turned out to be the person who looked older, while the person who came off as a teenager was actually in their early 30s, or something. "You can never be too sure", I guess it boils down to, unless the person has obvious signs of age like baldness (although I know a couple people who have balded pretty young, it all depends on your genes).
