Did You Know?

There have been 177 earthquakes "OFF THE EAST COAST OF" or "NEAR THE EAST COAST OF" or in "EASTERN HONSHU, JAPAN" since the 8.9 one (obviously this doesn't count the "pre-shocks", of which there were quite a few). Remarkable enough no matter what, but they've all been 4.6 or above, and about 25 have been 6.0 or above. Basically, the area has not stopped shaking for nearly an entire day (if I have my time zones right). At a guess, the Pacific plate has made, is making a rather large movement. I suppose that the New Zealand quakes are related, since that's on the edge of the same plate. I heard of a mention that Japan (not further specified about just what sub-locality) was now a few meters further east than it used to be - if so, that's huge movement in geologic terms (I guess due to subduction of the Pacific plate?).

I repeat [personal profile] enotsola's remark from sometime last year after a sizable quake: the Earth is hatching. Either that or frickin' Lemuria is rising, or Cthulhu, or something.

I hope it's along the lines of Lemuria and not along the lines of Cthulhu XD... age of light trumps age of demonic slavery anyday...

the report I saw on CNN was that the main island had moved about eight feet according to GPS data.

Yeah, something like 2.5 meters. Still, that's huge movement. Usually when there's visible slip on the faults we're on in California, it creeps gradually in fractions of an inch. (http://geology.about.com/library/bl/tours/blfoto_cafaultoak3.htm) Even large slips are usually not measured in meters!
