Does anyone know what to provide as the identity URL to use one's Google account as an OpenID sign-in? Like arethinn.livejournal.com or arethinn.dreamwidth.org. Neither of the answers I've found (https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/id or http://www.google.com/profiles/yournamehere - actually it's numeric form, https://profiles.google.com/105674350604747725373) seems to work. The former gives No claimed id: url_fetch_error: Error fetching URL: Internal Server Error and the latter No claimed id: no_identity_server: The provided URL doesn't declare its OpenID identity server.

Weird. I told it to use Google and it defaulted to LiveJournal and now doesn't even give me options. So I guess that defaults to "I clearly don't know, and I clearly don't know how to find out."

I didn't. I chose Google from the drop-down box of options, and it gives me a generic message that "You can easily comment on posts at LiveJournal under your Google account" but it doesn't tell me how and there are no options available for that. I am currently logged into Google. Apparently choosing the option from the drop down menu isn't enough, but I don't have any idea what else to do.

oh, bah. It didn't occur to me LJ had some special setup going. I'm actually trying to do this (for other people's benefit) on InsaneJournal, you see, where you have to past in the identity URL.

OK, well, fuck, this time it took me to a page asking whether I'd allow LJ to "manage my contacts", which I (perhaps unwisely) allowed, and now I'm logged into LJ under my Google account and I feel kinda dirty. But I had to do a whole thing with validating via an email sent to me first; never did it ask me for a URL. OTOH it never asked me for a password either.

LOL. inorite? Not as dirty as you'd feel if you logged in with Facebook.

Sheesh, looking at the drop-down for "other user", I really had a blind spot for this. I mean, I bloody well knew you could log in with Facebook because I remember the brou-ha-ha when they implemented it, but I had no idea there were so many other options and that they had done it the way they did. (Although you can still pick openid and paste something in.)
