Third item in the post:

Z. Budapest Wants “Theft” of “We All Come From The Goddess” to Stop: Dianic elder Z. Budapest has issued a statement calling for an end to alternate versions and unlicensed recordings of her chant “We All Come From The Goddess,” saying that, quote, “It is my intellectual property. it is NOT a folk song, which by the way is the fate of many composers whose songs are stolen.” Budapest further stated that to “steal my song from now will have consequences. You put men into the song, like God, a hex will be activated.”

...um. Really, Z? Really?

It may be true that it's her intellectual property and she has a legal right to assert copyright and seek action against those using it without her permission. But uh, derivative works and parodies, fair use, much? (Someone in the comments cited some kind of religious-use exception, too.) Even if not, it seems like the barn doors have stood open well too long on this (decades) - good luck actually enforcing it, even if it is her legal right. But employing malefic magic against anyone who dares to sully it with maleness...?

Comments on the post are interesting, although Kenaz Filan seems to have quite a nasty bug up his butt. I don't think hate and vitriol are helpful, even if understandable, but ... well, yeah, Z seems to have really gone off the deep end by this point, if she hadn't already.

Interesting. It's pretty sad about Ms. Budapest; I just feel sorry for her, really. But having said some things I regret along my own path, I will not judge. )O(

I just read this tonight as well and I my reaction was the same. "Geez, is this for real?" I was reminded of the Diana Galbadon fiasco that occurred last year (or perhaps it was the year before that), in fact, you might possibly have been the one to tell me about it, I forget now.

As a friend put it, kind of surgically removes all the warm, loving fuzzy feeling I get when I usually sing that song. Sad.

I think this is just goofy. I think the song has reached folk song status given that last I heard it, it was sung by a man doing Reiki on me after I had mentioned Kali. We've all heard it. In the pagan community, we've probably all sung it if even outside of a religious context. I am now Wiccan, for example, however, I have sung it as an example of Wiccan worhip. Heck, it's not even confined to Wiccans anymore. So I don't even understand where she is coming from on this one.

At least with the gender fiasco, I get that she is old and may simply not understand that not only cisgender women are women. Issues of gender and sexuality can be confusing to those who are steeped in the old gender binary view. So as much as I did not agree, I at least could understand where she may be coming from. But this is just like lol wut?

I've only got one thing to say;

"We all come from the garden, a flaming sword prevents our return..."

I'll be outside, as I don't want that hex to go through my roof.
