Obama Embraces Marriage Equality

I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together ... at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married.

I just cannot bring myself to be impressed by this unless there is some kind of legal follow up.

Although that's not something he has the power to enact or ensure on his own... he could veto legislation passed by the US Congress, but he has no power to dictate what states do. That's up to those individual dominos to do that falling, so to speak... Nor can he introduce legislation.

I realize that. I do hope some tangible good does come out of this (like a veto on legislation opposing or restricting same-sex marriage, if it should come up), but until it does, I am pretty much like "okay, and?"
