Hello! I'm the one looking for a lawyer. My mother has funds sitting in a court registry in New Orleans (long story involving a portion of my grandfather's will and a dispute amongst his daughters). My mother and I are unable to afford legal fees, and assistance has been denied as neither of us live in Louisiana (we're in California).
It's really not a complicated matter. It's just a form. All we need is a motion and order to withdraw the funds from the court registry. I attempted to acquire the form independently, but I was told we need a Louisiana lawyer to do this.
If you know of anyone who would provide free legal assistance to someone out of state. . .
Thank you very much for the help. I sent along my information and a request for aid last week. I haven't received a response, which is not altogether unexpected considering I'm out of state. I'm beginning to think I don't qualify for legal aid in Louisiana at all . . .
That's odd. I'll give him a call and see what's going on over at the clinic. I know his law partner had to cancel weekend plans because things got crazy.
Oh! I'll hang in there then. I know it's a very busy time of the year. Perhaps I should have sent more contact info. . . though I thought it would be best to first make sure I qualify.
