According to Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Spicer): "In 1999, Spicer joined the U.S. Navy Reserve as a public affairs officer; he currently holds the rank of Commander. In 2012, he received a master's degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. As of December 2016, he is assigned to the Joint Chiefs of Staff's naval reserve contingent in Washington, D.C."
I looked up Bannon's Naval service record the other day, because I kept seeing him referred to as a "former Navy officer", with no rank cited. Turns out he was only in for seven years; made full Lieutenant his last year: commendable, but not all that impressive.
My father was a Navy Commander and a lifelong Republican. I'm glad he didn't live to see these two disgraces to the uniform; he would have died of rage and shame.
The starship in Larry Niven's 'Ringworld' is named Lying Bastard. It's not a military ship though, despite being chock-full of weapons I mean tools (privatization, doncha know, Niven being something of a Randroid.) I'd be all in favor of putting Spicer in command of that ship, which was heading for unknown space with an untested hyperdrive and an untrustworthy alien crew, one of them large and carnivorous.
From his record, it appears that Commander Spicer has flown a desk in the propaganda department for most if not all of his career. A suitable choice to head the new Ministry of Truth.
