Utterly random and un-called for... I've been immersing myself in MST reading for the past couple days, following shortly on one of the many viewings of my entire collection (some 65 or 70 episodes, mostly in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th seasons). This sparked a craving to have a complete collection at some point, or at least as complete a collection as possible given that no known copies exist of the pilot and first three episodes. In any case, most of my tapes are from the mid-90s showings on Comedy central. The oldest is a tape of "Mitchell" and "The Brain that Wouldn't Die" from 1993, and contains a snippet of "Short Attention Span Theatre" and "Everything You Need to Know" that used to precede MST3K in the program lineup. Most of the others were taken from a "top 100 countdown" event that Comedy Central had and appear to be from 1995 (given the Windows 95 commercials that appear), and some contain little bits and ending credits of the Kids in the Hall, which is what was shown at 11:30 pm before MST3K at midnight during most of the time I was watching it on Comedy Central. When I was a junior and senior in high school I used to have a little ritual for watching MST3k, which involved settling in in the kitchen (yes, we have a TV in the kitchen) for Kids in the Hall at 11:30, and then popping a bag of popcorn during the commercial break before MST3K, which bag was always poured into a bowl for eating, and I did indeed dim my lights, because it was applicable...
