So I just ran down to the store (well, drove - it's bloody cold) seeking a can of Rockstar. They didn't have any, just Red Bull and various Red Bull knockoffs, and a new one on me - sugar-free Red Bull. The first thing that crossed my mind was "only in America..." We're just so into sugar-free, fat-free everything we can (and some things we can't - witness the various "fake fats" that have other undesirable side effects). In a weird way I think it reflects the way people don't take responsibility for things... wanting the luxury without having to pay the price for it, the "you can have it all and have it now without having to pay a thing" mentality whose financial cousin has much of America in debt up to their armpits. A hollow life with only flavour, no nutrition...
