Part of my dreaming last night (this morning, really) took place at a place that was ostensibly work, but looked different... smaller, darker, in some frames I remember, almost mood-lit like a restaurant. Another part was in a garden somewhere.
In the first part, I was dreaming that my high school friend Matt York, and some other assorted "dream extras" friends of his, were in the Media Lab between rows F and G (biggest open aisle), passing around an open, flat, square Tupperware container filled with something that looked like dark red wine or maybe a lot of espresso. Apparently someone was telling someone it was ecstasy, or there was ecstasy in it, or something. Myself, I just wanted them to put a lid on it and put it away, because they were going to spill it for sure. The only other interesting feature of this dream was a combination pinball machine / various-80s-games video game thing which was standing in the back of the room, and someone was playing (I think) Donkey Kong on it.
The garden part of the dream involved a salvia plant that I had been waiting to bloom with sweet-pea flowers (I have no idea why). It finally did so, but at that point most of the leaves were gone, some having been pruned off, and others having been eaten by big caterpillars which were now setting up shop spinning cocoons. They were 2-3 inches long and half to 3/4 of an inch thick, furry and mostly black, with some red-orangey stripes or patches near their heads. There were white tufts all over the plant, which were caterpillars starting cocoons, and then there were some completed cocoons, and a couple of them where the moths (not butterflies, but hang on) had emerged. The moths had about a 4-inch wingspan and were 3 inches long or so. Like the caterpillars, they were mostly black with some orange-red markings on the edges of the wings. We referred to them by their species, some word starting with H ("Hurgens"?). These moths were a middle stage between the caterpillar, and a later butterfly, which was going to be a yellow and black thing resembling a tiger swallowtail.
