Okay, so sugar alcohols are bad, but I was really amused by this typo under "Is Glycerine a Sugar alcohol?"

"Glycerine was also used by the US government in desert storm to keep soldiers from becoming dehydrated in the 1000F+ desert environment, saving many lives."

Heh, that is highly amusing.

They are so not kidding about the sugar alcohols either. I am diabetic, and I eat a restricted-carb diet as part of what I do to control my blood glucose. Atkins has this line of candy that utilizes sugar alcohols. They taste fantastic, as good as "regular" candy. But they give you gawdawful digestive distresses (the details of which I won't go into to avoid being rude, but you get the idea) and are generally not worth it.
