penguinboi post his today, and because I know you're all just droolingly interested, here's a screenshot of my current desktop.
The background is a photo taken by Kisma Stepanich somewhere in Ireland. What's not showing here is that I have silly names on the tooltips for the desktop icons and also for some of the things in the quicklaunch bar.
the matrix (my computer): "I am Holly, the ship's computer, with an IQ of 6000."
the gramayre (my documents): "The rat's pack."
cycle bin (recycle bin): "The bit bucket."
Mozilla: "there goes tokyo"
Microsoft Word: "werd!"
The names for things tend to change when I get bored of the icons. For example, the last "My Documents" was a Bauhaus logo and said "dark entries". The last "Recycle Bin" was icons of the (American McGee's Alice) Cheshire Cat's full face (full), and just his grin (empty), and was called "recheshire bin".
Oh, and my Windows start and exit sounds (not that I often hear them, as the speakers are rarely on) are the first few measures of "Lullaby" by the Cure, and a sample of MST3K's Crow T. Robot saying (not singing) "Nobody loves me, everybody hates me. Think I'll go eat worms."
