Age: 25
Where did you grow up: south Bay California

1. A body of water, smaller than a river, contained within relatively narrow banks? creek for tiny rocky things, stream for something larger and more free-flowing. Perhaps rarely brook, but probably not spontaneously in normal, rapid speech.

2. What the thing you push around the grocery store? shopping cart, although if I'm asking someone to get one I might also say just basket ("Would you get a basket?")

3. A metal container to carry a meal in? I'm not sure what object is being referred to here, but I'm going to say lunch box

4. The thing that you cook bacon and eggs in? frying pan, less commonly skillet

5. The piece of furniture that seats three people? couch, less commonly sofa

6. The device on the outside of the house that carries rain off the roof? gutter

7. The covered area outside a house where people sit in the evening? porch in the front, patio in the back

8. Carbonated, sweetened, non-alcoholic beverages? soda if I'm in California, pop if I'm in Canada (and I mean this literally - I change which I say, depending on where I am)

9. A flat, round breakfast food served with syrup? pancake

10. A long sandwich designed to be a whole meal in itself? sub

11. The piece of clothing worn by men at the beach? "The"? Um, I would say swim trunks, probably, if that's the item being referred to here.

12. Shoes worn for sports? Assuming you mean in general and not specialty shoes like soccer cleats, probably sneakers. "Tennis shoes" is something I tend to reserve either for someone actually playing tennis, or for children's sneakers. Lingual quirk for me, I guess.

13. Putting a room in order? Umm, [cleaning/tidying/straightening] up (pretty much interchangeably).

14. A flying insect that glows in the dark? firefly

15. The little insect (arthropod) that curls up into a ball? pill-bug

16. The children's playground equipment where one kid sits on one side and goes up while the other sits on the other side and goes down? see-saw, rarely teeter-totter (usually only if someone else has used that word first)

17. How do you eat your pizza? Um, with my hands, and from the narrow end. (Is that what's being asked for? Is it contrasting that with people who use a knife and fork?)

18. What's it called when private citizens put up signs and sell their used stuff? garage sale or rarely yard sale

19. What's the evening meal? dinner or rarely supper (the one in the middle of the day being called always lunch, never "dinner", whether I refer to the evening one as "supper" or not)

20. The children's game where one person has the task of catching any other whereupon they are given the same task? Sounds like you mean tag to me.

21. The thing under a house where the furnace and perhaps a rec room are? Basement, possibly cellar but only if a sort of grey, dim, cement, damp, unfinished kind of place. Basement could be either.

22. A window covering on rollers that pulls down. window shade

23. A new, limited access, multi-lane road. Might be a freeway but it depends on the speed limit (55+). Not sure what's being referred to here. Otherwise probably just road.

24. Heavy garments worn for work. You may be referring to overalls here?

25. The highest grade of gasoline? premium
