I don't understand what the deal is with friend_whoring. What's supposed to be the point? (regardless, for the moment, of whether there is an nefarious hidden intent)

? As far as I know it's just a fun thing darkmattr did, although I did notice he mentioned in his lj that someone he has Issues with is misconstruing him trying to help a friend who had a fire or some such. He's not, she really did have a fire. He's actually a really neat guy. Is there some other thing up with it besides that?

I don't mean the person who had that awful fire... I just mean the general point... there are so many friends and friends-of and all... one of the rules is "if this is your first day, you have to pimp". Pimp what? Are you just supposed to point out journals of your friends or communities that you want to "advertise"?

As for "nefarious hidden intent", it was suggested by someone else that the person who set it up is a stalker and did so specifically to fuck with his "stalkee". I know nothing about it, but that's what I was referring to.

He was mainly trying to see how long it would take to max out the list of people who had joined it without actively advertising it other than on your first day you had to advertise it in your own journal. So no advertising on the community community, or in other communities or what have you. Just in your own journal, just on the first day you joined. He likes doing funny things on LJ, he was the person behind bob_dot_com.

And no, he's not stalking Shadesong. They were at one time good friends, and had a falling out. Now she baits him and baits him with things like accusing him of making up the fire story to scam her specifically, and when he finally gets pissed off enough to react, she cries all over LJ that he's stalking her.

99% of his LJ posts have nothing to do with her, of course, but that doesn't stop her from playing that game. He really just wishes she'd get over him and move on with her life and leave him and his alone. *sigh*

Re: stalking: Ok. As said, I know nothing about it. (And glad of the lack of drama participation, heh) I had mentioned that suggestion mainly in case anyone else came back and said "well this is why!!" because that wasn't the reason I was confused about (whether or not it was real).

I just happened onto your post; curiosity kills the cat and I don't get it at all with no backstory and just being a friend of bluesidhe, reading his friends' link.

That being said, it looks like advertising your Lj....pimping other Ljs....hell, I don't get this sort of thing. To me it looks like too much time on the hands...but once more, I know nothing but what I see, knowing nothing about it.
