I'm at a loss here...

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Jack Nicklaus had more major tournament wins than any other golfer in history. Skill and practice were at the heart of his athletic prowess, but on at least one occasion he tapped into a more mysterious source of power. In 1973, he got into an uncharacteristic slump that had him stumped. Then one night he had a dream in which he experimented with a new grip on his clubs. When he went to the golf course the next morning, he tried the dream's suggestion. It worked; his funk ended. I hope you'll draw inspiration from Nicklaus' example, Virgo. If you start drawing a blank in your area of expertise, be willing to call on help you'd normally never seek -- maybe even the woo-woo kind.

I'm not sure what's meant by my "area of expertise"... certainly not what I do for a living. The only thing I could really claim as "expertise" is spelling/editing... and "expertise" kind of implies "never at a loss" there. As for getting information from dreams, I can think of about twice or three times that's ever happened since I started paying at least vague attention something like twelve years ago, so I doubt that muchly.

Actually, I've found lately that the Rob Brezsny horoscopes apply to me not at all. And by "lately" I mean something like two months.

Oh, hey! Did I mention that the LCD monitor that I ordered on the 21st arrived today? No? Well, it did, and I'm quite pleased with it. So far I've seen no dead pixels, despite staring at close range with a variety of things being displayed, and as expected, it's got a slightly larger viewing area than the 17" CRT which is now sitting on the floor in front of my closet. The main benefit of this thing is that I can set it a good 6 inches farther back on my table, thus actually being at a comfortable range given where I sit because of the furniture in my room. And it's pretty and black and stuff. So yeah. If anyone else is thinking of buying an LCD panel, I can probably recommend the Planar PE170 (that'd be the 17" model - 15" is PE150) and the vendor Tiger Direct. (Less than a week is fairly impressive shipping from Florida.) Ease of use - I plugged it in and it worked. There is a driver/docs CD which I have yet to look at to see if it will improve anything, but it obviously isn't essential for acceptable operation.

OK, I've officially seen the word "happy" enough times today that it's lost its meaning. Anyone care to provide an etymology?
