Why does speaking east Asian languages involve so much shouting? Usually it seems it's the Vietnamese folks who are loudest, but just now I passed by a group of people on the cafeteria stairs making an enormous ruckus in Chinese (and as far as I could tell it wasn't any kind of argument). Something about the tonal qualities of these languages (especially all the nasal stuff in Vietnamese) makes them carry further, or resound more, than people shouting in English or Spanish or what-have-you, too.

LOL, there's apparently a De Anza club whose acronym is DAFT!

There's someone posting on alt.traditional.witchcraft by the name of "Keapon Laffin".

Points if you get the reference...

I was inspired by a post on rec.arts.tv.mst3k.misc for this one.

What film won the "Best Picture" Oscar the year you were born? Have you seen it? If so, what did you think of it?

For me, this is The Deer Hunter.

I ain't never heard of this flick, even though it got a number of other Oscars that year.

Next!

(Coolness points, though: Christopher Walken was in it, and won "Best Actor in a Supporting Role".)
