As expected, I was offered the Open Media Lab job mere hours after my interview (I think there was one more after me). So Judy and I sat down and talked about it. What with one thing and another, I have about a week tops, and of course she wants to hear ASAP. Since my other interview is tomorrow it's possible I can tell her at the end of this week. She says she is OK with re-opening the position if she has to (...why? why not just hire the next person down the list? that makes no sense to me) and they will cope somehow if there is a gap between my last day on the 9th and hiring someone else. She is really being much more flexible and supportive than she has any obligation to be, and I'm very grateful. So ok. Basically it all hinges on tomorrow. Carole (cataloging) speculated that this might not be a normal part of the process (I don't know) and that they might be trying to decide between just two or three candidates by now. In any event they can't have a whole gaggle of us anymore. So I'm hopeful things will move quickly.

I am not very sure what I want to do if by any chance I am not offered the Sunnyvale position, though. (My heart is kind of telling me no, don't be silly, but my brain wants to plan for all contingencies anyway.) Should I take something I really don't want to to be able to move onto my "higher goals" (i.e., moving out of my parents' house, hopefully for the last time! since I have done it twice already in my life, and submitting the sponsorship application for [livejournal.com profile] enotsola to come to the US)? Should I turn it down and see if any ship comes in on the desktop support job at the District? (In all likelihood I will have to give her a decision before I even know if they are considering me for an interview or not. And even then, I'm sure there are more qualified candidates. You know, like people who actually met the minimum *laughs*. It was kind of a long shot.) I should probably send in an application for the position at Mission regardless, since I have to mail that one to be there by March 6th, which means doing so in like two or three days from now. I can always withdraw it if I no longer need to worry about it.

Mrf. Still, I suppose I should be pretty satisfied with my track record over this wild goose chase: out of I think 10 (maybe 11, I forget if I applied for 2 or 3 things at UC Berkeley) applications I've submitted to various places since late October, I've gotten seven interviews and been offered two positions (the other was one at San Jose State - I turned it down).
