I can really recommend not following a morsel of chocolate chip cookie with a slice of grilled onion.

Yeah, 'cause a nice fresh onion is sweet, and proper grilling can make it sweeter... :)

Might be one of those combinations whose flavours just don't meld, so you would taste onion and chocolate separately and not go "ew!"? For example, we used to randomly combine snack foods at cast parties in high school... two I remember were plain tortilla chips and Froot Loops, and sour-cream-and-onion potato chips and M&Ms. (so maybe there's that chocolate and onion thing, lol, although the flavour is usually quite artificial and altogether unlike a real onion)

Possibly. It's not a combination that I'd think of, though, at first... I'd think that the tang of a onion would not go together with the sweetness of chocolate. If you grill them in a caramel glaze, maybe *then* onions would work. :)
