An interesting post on Barbelith about making a set of runes. I am particularly intruiged by the accompanying process of writing the runes on paper, burning them, and ingesting the paper ashes mixed with a liquid. "Taking in" the runes in this way sounds interesting...

Total tangent, but every time you mention "barbelith" it makes me think of the barbaloots from The Lorax (you know, in their barbaloot suits).

Ingesting runes: I've heard of that before! But in a different way. One rune book I read (...anyone know the title? I've been searching for it ever since I first read it, which is why I keep track of book titles nowadays) said to bake a set of cookies (or crackers, wafers, or little cakes) each one inscribed/decorated with a different rune. (Good thing that the Futhark are simple shapes... I just wish I could do this with the Tarot.) Each day you study a different rune until you think you've got it, and then you eat the corresponding cookie, to symbolize that you've taken in the understanding of that rune.

Even though rituals aren't generally about how tasty something is, I admit that inscribed cookies sound more appetizing than wet paper ashes.

Heheh, yah... the only instance of runes on cookies I've read was specifically the Fehu rune being used on "money cookies", and I think it was "The Goddess in the Office". Probably not the reference you're thinking of.

Runes are traditionally carved on wood, so if you were a termite... (or there's always the burning-and-drinkig method again.)
