In a debate over the use of the terms "worship" and "work with" in reference to gods in modern paganism, [livejournal.com profile] mordantcarnival sez:

"To me, 'worship' is mostly about allowing yourself to have a consciousness of the presence of your Gods and spirits in every aspect of your life. Living your faith, letting the Divine into each action (and if you can't find your Gods in what you're doing, why are you doing it?)"

werd, sez me.

I remember hearing somewhere that the word worship was a derivative of a Norse phrase weord script, or something like that... In essence it means to mesh your wyrd/orlog with that of the gods, expecially those you are closest to. This is not to say that you submit yourself to them, just forge close ties, much like family.

Not worth - Anglo-saxon weord, or wyrd: The links connecting everything. You are creating connections to and with them, and therefore binding yourself to them as well. This happened in Norse/Germanic societies a lot, and on all levels.
