If only my SIN would show up, I would apply for this job at UoW:
Library Cataloguing and Information Service Associate –Library-USG 7
University degree required along with a demonstrated ability to work quickly with a high degree of accuracy and independence. Minimum of several years' previous cataloguing experience and knowledge of Anglo American Cataloguing Rules and MARC record structures. Proven problem-solving skills including the ability to apply a given set of rules to a wide range of circumstances. Good computer skills with relation to file structures and library systems software. Interest in and aptitude for working directly with the public to provide reference service. Reading comprehension of Romance, Germanic or Slavic languages would be an asset. Experience with Endeavor's Voyager system and/or experience with web based cataloguing tools such as Cataloguer's Desktop would be an asset.
I wasn't a cataloguer per se so I would have to do some crash-coursing in the AACR (which I know squat about) and MARC formatting (which I know a very little about, having done basic-level cataloguing at De Anza for about nine months), but I figure I could probably fake it until I make it if I actually were hired. Given all the "well, I guess I could kind of do this, although it's totally off in a different direction from all my previous work experience..." listings I've been coming across, one that actually matches reasonably well with my last job is kind of "OMGWTFBBQwhodathunkit?"
(They are also hiring an actual librarian, but that requires the MLIS degree I don't have. I really should invest the time and money one of these days.)
